ABOUT MYSELF & CROWN DIFFERENTIALS
I am Steve Haworth, the proprietor of Crown Differentials. I am based in the small village of Granby in Nottinghamshire, England.
Crown differentials are a relatively new company to the Land Rover world but I have many years of experience building and repairing Rover type differentials.
Having been trained up to Land Rover standard I am now able to offer a specialist service in final drive/differentials for vehicles that have been produced and are in production by Land Rover with the exception of the Freelander.
My workshop is fully equipped with the latest genuine Land Rover tools specially designed for the repair and rebuilding of differentials. I offer a friendly and professional service to all customers. I can offer differentials from the 1948 Series 1 Land Rover right to the latest models coming off the production line.
Some of these vehicles include, Series 1, 2, 2A, 3, Range Rover classic, Range Rover P38A, Range Rover G Cat L322, Defender, Discovery 1 and 2, Military and more.
I can offer either, second hand differentials, part and fully reconditioned units as well as remanufactured units, repairs, overhauls, modifications, lockers, limited slips and parts.
I am able to supply custom built units by special order to your requirements. I am also able to offer an out of hour’s service, weekdays until 10:00pm and Saturdays and Sundays until 10:00pm by prior appointment.
I am always honest. I will never lie to you to get a sale and I will never tell you that your order will be with you on a certain day if knowing that it will not. If you need to drop a differential off to me or collect out of hours, no problem.
I am always at the end of my phone if you wish to speak to me directly about anything differential related. No one else offers this service in the U.K. Please feel free to call me anytime. If my phone does not get answered, please try again later as I cannot always answer it

BILLING 2007#
Billing 2007, what can I say? It was my first time exhibiting at Billing. I should have been selling umbrellas and wellington boots. Yes, everyone who went knows how WET it was. I would like to thank everyone who came to me for parts, differentials and advice. Here are a few pictures of our stand at Billing. |

MY OWN VEHICLES
I am lucky enough to have many Land Rovers.
| Karens Defender 110 (my ex and book keeper)

Above is my Series 3 1972 tax exempt, overdrive, very tidy, plenty of MOT, I never use it, not sure why I bought it.
Below is one of my Discovery's |
| |
|
My 1991, 200TDI Discovery with many modifications. 90mm lift on the rear and 30mm lift on the front and yes, it sits level on the flat. I run Terrafirma +5 shocks on the rear which are pin to pin with raised mounting brackets. The front have twin shock towers and I run the + 5"shocks on the outside of the springs. The front and rear axles have X springs fitted so no need for dislocation cones. The wheel arches have been cut out to the maximum height in order to stop tyre fouling. Heavy duty rear bumper, heavy duty front winch bumper with winch. Front and rear QT diff guards, steering guard, heavy duty drag link bar and tracking bar. Safari snorkel, full external custom built roll cage incorporating rock and tree sliders. ARB air lockers front and rear with heavy duty ring and pinions. |
| |
|
The interior has more toys than the space shuttle and include the following. Satellite navigation system, GPS, Snooper camera alert system, front and rear colour cameras with built in infa red and microphones. 80 channel CB and a UHF and VHF emergency radio, DVD and CD player, MP3, MP4, radio and television with state of the art Pioneer 4 way speaker system, single 12” sub all powered by 2 JBL amplifiers. |
| |
|
Heavy duty adjustable and rose jointed panhard rod as well as castor corrected radius arms. Complete polybush kit and extended bump stops.
Heavy duty half shafts front and rear together with heavy duty CV joints and drive flanges. Custom built to the correct length heavy duty wide yoke prop shafts to cope with the articulation from both axles. All brake pipes have been replaced lowered and extended braided hoses fitted front and rear.
Wheel spacers with offset modular rims fitted with 265/75/16 Insa Turbo special track tyres.
The rear axle also incorporates a rose jointed A frame ball joint and rose jointed trailing arms. The drum brake has been replaced with an X brake (disc conversion) so it holds on the steepest of slopes.
Twin optima batteries and 130amp alternator power the extra electrics on the exterior and interior.
The rear part of the vehicles windows are guarded with mesh grill to help prevent tree branches popping into the rear, they also act as good fixing points for some tools as you will see.
Other accessories include a high lift jack, X eng ground anchor, 3 point harnesses for driver and passenger and emergency breathing air cylinder in case it tips over in water……
As you will see from the photos, there are many more things I could list but I think I have covered the main.
|
|
| 3 point harnesses for driver and co driver. |
|
| Waterproof seat covers. |
|
|
Mesh guards not only protect the glass from branches but help in the storage of the pick axe and axe. |
|

|
| Heavy duty winch bumper and cage from the front. |

The centre console houses a few extra switches including the controlls for the ARB air lockers.

Now it’s time for my hybrid Where do I start? As featured in LRO when I first built it, standing 8 feet 3” tall, 285/75R16 Grizzly claws on disco rims. Detroit locker in the rear and I replaced the Truetrac at the front for an ARB. Front and rear winches, full roll cage and rock sliders custom built. 3 Optima batteries on twin alternators and split charge. Over 1.5 kilowatts of lighting on the front, side flood lights and reversing lights total. It can be seen from the moon almost. Plus 4” pro comp shockers on the rear and front, lowered shock mounts on the rear by 4” and lowered turrets by 2” on the front. Standard 3.500cc V8 engine with SU carbs. Fitted with a military waterproofing kit on the ignition and a specially modified distributor making it 100% waterproof, tried and tested. Wide yoke props, custom built axles, castor corrected arms, cranked trailing arms, heavy duty track rod and drag link bar, adjustable pan hard rod.
There are so many modifications to list on this hybrid I could sit and type for hours. Just over 2 years to build and standing me at just over £18,000. NOT FOR SALE @ any offer.
To many other modifications to list Update SEPT 08, Detroit locker to come out of the rear and replace witgh an ARB. Front shafts and CV's to be replaced witn aero space spec M300 grade for ultimate strength.

BILLING 2008#
I decided to go ahead and book a stand again at Billing for the second year running. Even after the rain last year it did not put me off! Three weeks prior to Billing is intense as there is so much planning to do. It's unreal just for a one man band. I wish it was as easy as setting up a table with a few spare parts on to sell. Anyway, after a few hurdles we got to Billing on the Wednesday prior to the show ready to set up. A bigger stand this year and also sharing with Rocky Mountain spares which worked out excellently for the both of us. There didn't seem to be as many people milling about on the Weds or Thurs this year even though the weather was better and a better forecast :-) Wednesday we set up our small marquee with the help of Nottingham Land Rover club and Martin and Pam from Rocky Mountain spares. Thank you everyone for your help. After setting up I indulged in some greasy kebabs and many beers. Being someone who doesn't actually drink very much, I remembered why the morning after :-( After crawling through the empty beer bottles and kebab wrappers we worked on the stand until early evening in preparation for Friday morning. Thursday night saw only 3 beers and some healthy fish and chips from the local chippy. For the first time this year I actually employed staff instead of getting the Mrs to help. I am not sure why but it worked out much better :-) Friday morning I was up at 5:45 putting out stock and making final preparations, and after a quick shower I was ready. The sun was shining and the public began to appear. Friday and Saturday were excellent for business with Sunday being a bit slow but I am not complaining. I would like to thank everyone who came to visit us at our stand for purchases, advice and a friendly chat. I would like to thank also to Bearmach PLC, Devon 4x4, Amazon 4x4, Ashcroft transmissions, Nottingham Land Rover club, Land Rover monthly staff, Paul Saville, Ian Cherry, Richard Watchorn, My ex girlfriend and all my children before, during and after the show and finally a big thank you to Suzie DoGG for keeping an eye on the stand at night. Next year I am planning a bigger stand and will hopefully have a selection of reconditioned axle casings to add to our range of transmission products. See you all next year and once again, most sincerely, THANK YOU.
